Flooding on # 1 cyl after 30 minutes or so ?
16 Aug 2010 10:45
I've got a little anoying problem. After 25-30 minutes
of riding my 1996 KZ1000 Police bike, # 1 cylinder
will flood and foul the plug. I've checked all of the
obvious reasons : New Dynatek Coils, solid copper wires,
plenty of blue spark, plugs gapped at 32 thou, and float
level on # 1 carb. Like clockwork, I can count on # 1
plug getting wet after 20-30 mins. After I let it sit for
about 10 minutes, it runs great for another 20-30 mins.:S
Any ideas ???? I appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thanks much in advance !

Would experiment by leaning the pilot circuit, say 1/2 turn on the adjuster screw.
Would also verify choke plunger is fully closing.
And that air filter is fresh and clean, and not over-oiled if applicable, and not partially obstructed by something underneath the seat such as shop rag, gloves, etc.
Good Fortune!

May be internal carb issue, such as a dirty pilot circuit or too large pilot jet, loose pilot jet, perhaps a clogged pilot air jet, etc.

Flooding gas is usually caused by the needle/seat that is operated by the float.

Thanks much Guys. I'm thinking it may be an internal
carb problem with # 1 carb. I'm not looking forward
to pulling the rack off for one carb ...
I can get to the screws on the bowl with a small
screw driver if I'm careful. It might be worth a
shot to try and remove the bowl and inspect the carb
that way.
What about the decel enrichner valve ? I read where
it's vacumn controlled on decel, and will enrichen the
carbs. Seems funny, but it does seem like it happens when I'm decelerating on some occasions.
OBTW, I went with 2.2 Dynateks coils. The manual says
that 1.8 - 2.8 ohms are acceptable. So are the 2.2's okay
to use with my 1996 stock ignition ?
Hey thanks again,

Thanks Patton. I was worried about frying the coils.
I'll let you know when I figure the carb problem out.
