Keihin CV34 to Mikuni BS34 conversion

Hi, I have a 1982 KZ750 H3 that originally came with Keihin CV34 carbs on it. They were gummed up badly and I got them to run decently but never right on. Anyways I bought a set of Mikuni BS34 from a 82 KZ750 Spectre. The the throttle cable holder for the cable did not come on these carbs. The cable itself connects perfectly to the throttle plate actuator, but I need to make some kind of holder for the stock cable. Any suggestions from anyone who has converted from the Keihins to the Mikunis and had to make a modified cable holder to fit? Thanks Brian

A little off topic here, but are the Mikunis a direct fit up with your existing carb boots? I thought I read somewhere that the "34" was not the same size for the Keihins as the Mikunis.

They seemed to fit right in. The intake boots were a little of a struggle at first (after holding the keihins for almost 30 years they didnt totally accept the mikunis) but I got them in and tightened down. No evidence of any air leaks yet. But I havent taken it out yet without the throttle. The air box boots fit perfetly, but those are new.

Cool, I've been thinking about getting a set of the BS34s. I'd be interested to hear how you like them compared to the Keihins.

Well I never really had a good working set of Keihin's but so far the Mikuni's seem to work better. Just having trouble setting up to work coming off idle is really rough. The Kehins had a Choke flap, the Mikunis have a slide choke passage system. They fit the same appilcation, but are definately not the same carbs by a different company. And making a throttle cable holder was really easy. Took a flat chunk of metal, trimmed it, drilled a hole, tapped some new threads, attached to existing diaphragm cap screw, and screwed the existing cable right in perfectly.B)
