* ltd 1000j carbs
30 Jun 2010 13:26
Hi I'm a newbie and my name is Randy. I am not sure which carbs I have But I'm pretty sure they are cv because of the pull out choke and square tops.I've heard alot of bad things about them. They are pretty gummed up from sitting since 97. Should I clean and re-jet these or should I spend my cash on better carbs? I also will be going with pods and was told they don't work the greatest with these.::S

I suppose that regular manual slide carbs are easier to tune with pods...but I have the same bike as you and put pods on this winter. Although I am a newbie I have had and am having no issues with these carbs, many people put pods on them. Some people hate them with a passion for some reason, some people love them. I figure the carbs are just fine and you will be ok.

Mikuni BS34ss CV carburetors. I think that they are great. I have a set on my GPz1150 and I love them. I would have no other carburetor. Including smooth bores. Wit a little work they can be as good as a set of 31mm smoothbores. If you have any questions you can PM me.

I have the BS 34s on my bike (82 CSR) and other than a good cleaning,replacing the float gaskets, seats and needles and using a K and N filter in the stock airbox,mine runs fine.U could do a lot worse and sometimes the more u fiddle,the worse the bike runs.Ask me how I know.Lol.bj

Get some rebuild kits, they will have the new jets, stock bike? Stock jets in the kit will be good, unless you a Mile high like me. Then Leaner is good.

It just has a 4-1 header not sure the make because there's no markings visible.It also needs an ignition switch if anyone knows who has one. It was a friend of mines,and he passed away. I ended up with the bike but his daughter gave me the wrong key.only 10,000 miles

Yeah I was checkin out your project, that's amazing work you did!I may do something similar to my LTD in the future.For now I just need to ride. I'm laid off so cash is tight. Do you have the Ignition switch off the CSR or did you use it?

I'm using the stock key ignition from the CSR with a custom cluster modified from a ZN1100 cluster. I still have the CSR instrument cluster. I installed a cigarette liter plug for my electricity heated gloves and GPS adapter. The handle bars are a set of "superbike Bars" by "Bikemaster" and I installed an after-market master cylinder. I also have an after market "K&N" left control which I will be installing this weekend. The trippletree is stock CSR but the forks are GPz. I now got a set of Police forks which I am rebuilding for it. The mirrors are also aftermarket eBay and are MUCH MUCH better than the stock mirrors. They have a much better field of view. With the stock mirrors I couldn't see behind me at all. These give me a full field of view, I love them. The light is a stock GPz bucket with a custom reflector and a HID system installed. I have an osculating LED driving light mounted under the fairing.
