Bog at 4 - 6k in any gear....
21 Jun 2010 15:50
My bike bogs down when reaching 4K rpm and continues through 6K. What would cause this and how do I fix it?

What's your set up? Air box or pods? Exhaust? Jetting? Could be a lean condition, but could be a lot of other things too. Need more info...

Mine would do that when the needles were adjusted too rich.

pods, 4 to 1 straight vance and hines. It is running rich, jets at lowest setting. Removed #3 air pod and the bog went from 4-6 to 4-4800. Carbs being cleaned now. But I want to make damn sure that replacing the air pods afterward will help the problem.

Would raise the needle a step and see if that fixes your woes.

A bog in this range would usually indicate too lean on the needles. A stutter would indicate too rich in the needles.

Well before anything, perform/confirm carbs are in sync...
Bogs or falls flat on it's face?
Falls flat then too lean...
A method Larry taught me is during a ride, rev it up to 5/6 grand and hold it steady in 5th gear, does she run smooth smooth or sputter/oscillates as if running out of gas/clogged fuel line "henceforth fall flat on face" etc...?
Also, same scenario, let go of the throttle, let her snap shut, does she back fire, pop out the exhaust?
If either of the above holds true, too lean change to a richer clip position if optional on your setup or richer needle.
As Patton mentioned, pull the choke on a tad, she runs better then yup, too lean...
Plug conditions would also provide you some insight to running conditions...
