VM26SS Mikuni Installation..

06 Jun 2010 10:52
#373901
Would anyone have a good source for installation instructions for a set of VM26SS Mikuni carbs? They are from a '77 kz1000 ltd and I am putting them on a Z1 Classic in place of EFI. I know all the specifics related to the manifolds, pods etc. however I cant seem to figure out how the fuel lines and air lines hook up. Can anyone help? This is my first project and I want to get it right.

Thanks!

Dave

Note that with a single fuel line from petcock into carbs, there is only one "T" fuel pipe, in the middle between the inside carbs.

The oem vent tube routing exits to open air underneath the seat.

An alternate routing for vent tubes, preferred by some, is to exit to open air underneath the bike (along with the overflow hoses).

Great looking motor !!

Your cluch cable routing doesn't look like it should. Unless you intentionally did it that way, it should follow lower frame tube when leaving the case and then follow the downtube upward toward the steering stem. They way it is now it looks like it tear-up that nice finish on your header.

The clutch cable is meant for the original handlebars which were longer than the ones I have now. Any suggestions on where to find a shorter clutch cable? Thanks!

Z1E will have shorter clutch cable. Might be from standard model such as KZ1000-A1/2/3, or KZ1000-D1/2 cafe racer, or other models.

Would inquire at Z1E via telephone or email inquiry.

Thanks! Would this be useful for a 1980 Z1 Classic engine with a '77 KZ1000 carb? I'm speaking of the wiring diagram above.

May download many different wiring diagrams and other information for particular years and models by going into Filebase under KZ Information (in the green ribbon toward top of screen).

See below for navigation aid.
