carb and engine problem

i was reving up my kz550ci and noticed that one of my carbs butterfly flaps got sucked into engine belive is on top of piston please help how serious is this problem is there any way to solve problem with out taking whole motor apart please help thank you.

when looking in the spark plug hole do you see it. seems like it would be hard to get something that size past the valve.

I agree with wes_scooter, unless it actually snapped in half I can't see it getting past the valve.
However, for it to fall off in the first place the screws/rivets that hold it to the shaft would've had to come loose, and those very well could have entered the cylinder.
I'm thinking more than likely removing the carbs to check the intake port, will find your missing item. If the screws entered while running there may be some serious scoring of the cylinder walls, no work around for that. There may be a slim chance that you got really lucky and they just pooted right on out with exhaust before causing any major damage.
If you find the flap in the intake, I'd do some serious searching of the inside of the cylinder for them screws/rivets before ever trying to fire her up again.

so how does the cylinder look. did it get messed up. looking are the valves and the combustion chamber, looks like a good time to rework the head while its apart. hope it all goes smoothly for ya.
