Frozen choke 82 KZ440 LTD
31 May 2010 14:35 - 31 May 2010 14:35
My 19 year old son moved out on his own and picked up a used 82 KZ440 LTD. Bike is in decent shape and runs well when it's warmed up. The problem is the choke is frozen, frozen open. I can't even move the choke lever. This makes the bike difficult to start when cold. Love the bike, it's oldschool simple. But i have not had one of these before and before I dive into it I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before on theirs. You know, one of those things where somebody says "Oh yeah I had that happen before you have to bla bla bla... etc."
Thx,
Jim
Thx,
Jim

Would slather the entire choke assembly well and repeatedly with PBBlaster, or better yet a 50-50 mixture of ATF and Acetone, over the course of a day or so, to see if the choke mechanism loosens up.
Don't force it.
Good Fortune!

Well the PBB worked! Slabbed it all over the linkage and let it sit. Forgot about it and it sat for a while. Tried working the choke up and down, up and down, and it just suddenly started working freely. Thank God! Saved me from having to pull it off and go through it. Thx for the advise.
