bike wont idle
23 May 2010 19:56
Hello everyone,
I have a 81 kz440 D2 and just cant seem to get it running right. The problem I have is that whenever the throttle is rolled the bike will die, but if the idle is at 4k when the throttle is rolled the bike will respond well. After the throttle is rolled at 4k, however, the rpms will slowly fall until the bike dies. I have been trying to fix these problems for months, but it never works.
Any help you folks can provide will be truly appreciated, thank you.

Compression numbers really help!
Roll the throttle on and hold it when it dies.
Then pull the plugs and have a look.
Wet with gas... too rich.
Bone dry... too lean.
You can hook up a timing light to make sure you have consistant spark the whole time.

TexasKZ,
I took the carbs out a couple of weeks ago and cleaned them in depth. I didn't notice anything plugged up though. I will check again though.

Hey guys,
Quick question. I was tinkering with the bike and decided to try and start it without the fuel tank. It wouldn't start so I plugged the vacuum fuel line with my finger after that it started right up and maintained a constant idle speed. Do you guys think that there is an air leak in the petcock. On another note the application of throttle still killed the bike, but could that be because there isn't enough fuel in the float bowls alone to feed the enigine or be cause it wasn't completely warmed up. Could it also be another problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!
