removing stripped screws from Diaphragm cover
05 Apr 2010 11:30
Does anyone know, how I could possibly remove stripped screws from my diaphragm cover without messing up my carbs?

Are we talking BS34s?
I'd first recommend removing the carbs from the bike, if you haven't already done so (just to give you more room to work), and ideally mount them securely in a bench vise (with rags or wood strips to protect the carb bodies).
Do you have a set of screw extractors? Like these:
www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40349
Basically, you drill a small pilot hole into the top of the stripped screw, then using one of these extractors, you screw it down into screw head. Since the extractor is threaded backwards, it is supposed to grip into the screw and back it out.
Can also use some penetrating oil, like "Liquid Wrench". Squirt some on the screw and let it sit for a while to soak in.
If you've got enough of the screw head to grab, and room to do it, you can grab onto it with a pair of vise grips. But move carefully. If you break off the head, then your only option may be to drill it out and re-tap the hole.

If you mean the the slot of the screw (where the screw driver touches the screw) I used my dremel to make a new and bigger slot for a large flat head screw driver.
Does any of that make sense?

I've used these before

Worked well if the screw head is still there.

small pair of vise grips all ways does the job for me if you can get into it or my favorite left handed drill bits but use very light to medium pressure with those you just trying to snag the screw and spin it out, not drill a hole.
