Individual POD Filters for a 81 KZ650CSR - HELP
19 Mar 2010 13:56
Hi I just bought a 81 kz650csr that I want to turn into a cafe racer. For some reason I cant find anyone who sells air filters to fit on the 81 model? Has anyone done this and is their any problems with the 81?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does it have the vm24 carbs? Or the later CV style? If it's the vm24s you can use pods from any other year 650. If it's the later CV style you can take a measurement of the intake diameter and order pods by that size. Just call z1enterprises and tell them the size, they'll be able to get you exactly what you need.

Be sure to buy the standard set of pod accessories – jets, needles, carb bowl gaskets, carb theory manuals, psychiatric support, etc.

Or just bump your pilot jets to 17.5, mains to 112.5, and make sure your needles are clipped on the #4 slot...
Having your carbs synced is mandatory to get them all to balance right (even more so with pods than stock airbox)
Depending on the length of your legs you might find strong cross wind to be problematic. I've never had problems running pods, but my short legs are the perfect length to shield the pods from the side and keep rain/wind out of my pods while riding down the highway.

For real, you'll need lots of jets. Be prepared to dish $$$$$$$$$.

That's ok. He can just buy a different set of carbs, then the jets, needles, etc. etc. instead of simply buying a stock air filter.

I ran pods (and still will once I get my 1000 motor conversion done) for years on my first 650. Once I got them dialed in jetting wise they gave me no issues. My legs happen to be the perfectly short length though to make my knees create a shielding effect on the pods while riding, making cross drafts and rain non-issues for me. Lots of guys have had issues with them though. It's one of those age old questions of which do you like better...blondes or brunettes? Chevy or Ford? you get the idea...
