Petrol in Air Box Filter
08 Feb 2010 01:08
Hi to All.
Please somebody help, I have a KZ1100 Shaft 1981 A1 model.
Stock carbs stock exhausts.
As the title states, I have noticed petrol in my airbox filter casing. What could the cause be.
Valve sitting to tight, shims to tight.
I have recently changed the cam chain but this problem was there before, I also changed the rings last year doen valve etc.
Anybody

Have you checked your float height and needles and seats in the carbs?

Question.... Unknown to me anyways but here goes...
Some or all (again unknown to me) of the stock OEM airbox configurations have the engine breather tubes feeding back into the airbox for collecting back presure oils from spewing all over...
With that in mind, are you seeing oil as well as gas in your airbox?
If so, check your oil site glass for possible gas in the engine case...
Just a thought...

Float height, Petcock operating properly...vacume or gravity...did you turn off the petcock?
Fuel in the airfilter usually means the floats are stuck and allowing an oveabundence of fuel into the bowls which overflows backwards out of the carbs into the airbox.
Changing the oil is not a bad idea, once the problem is resolved, given the realivly low cost of doing so.

Do you have a new, large, high quality and inline Fuel Filter to stop all that stuff from your old Fuel Tank from reaching the Needle Valve and free flowing. If not, then raw Fuel can back into Air Box. Don't ask how I know.
Best of success,
