Fuel line hardening from ...
31 Jan 2010 12:53
I had to replace ALL the fuel lines in my chainsaws and weedwhackers the other day. They were all as brittle as glass. Was told by the mechanic at the shop it was from the alcohal added to the gas as per fed regs. This got me to thinking about my fuel lines on my bikes. I was told that there was nothing to be done about the brittling factor to just plan on replaceing them from time to time. I was using the tygon lines and thought that stuff was chem safe. It's what they use in labs and industry to move all sorts of nasty stuff with out problems. So whats up with the fuel prob? And do I need to be thinking about the tiny lines between my carbs as possably needing to be replace from this stuff?

It sounds to me like a possible place for a fire to start. I'd make replacing the fuel lines from the tank an item to be done at least once a year.
As for the lines between the carbs, possibly Vitron(?) O-rings would resist alcohol better than Buna O-rings do.
