Best way to check intake boots?

Best way to check intake boots?

Now that i got a good look at my intake boots they look kinda crunchy. Whats the best way to check them.
Current bike..1977 kz1000 1075cc kit,dyna everything,lotsa chrome,kerker pipe.

you can spray wd40 or carb cleaner around them while running to check for cracks,when in doubt change em B)
Still recovering,some days are better than others.

Ok got my intake boots off, there are some lite cracks outside but nothing on the inside,they seemed sealed pretty damn good.
Current bike..1977 kz1000 1075cc kit,dyna everything,lotsa chrome,kerker pipe.

I don't like rubber with cracks. It has led to poorly running engines, suddenly flat tires and BABIES. Nuff said.... :pinch:

If the tube part looks ok be sure to use a magnifying glass to carefully check the mating surface of the carb holders where they seal against the cylinder head. The tubes on mine looked perfect inside and out, but the mating surface had TINY hairline cracks. I replaced them and could not believe the big difference it made in idling. Ed

if they are hard like 3rd grade then change them.

They are still pretty pliable,i'll probably replace em this winter when i do the complete tear down of the bike minus the motor. Think i'm gonna put a zxr swingarm on with a 200mm tire when the snow flies:P

I had the same exact situation, it did make a VERY noticable difference.

When you put the new ones on smear a little hi temp fuel tolerant gasket sealer around the lip that connects to the cylinder ports to ensure a "air tight seal" ;) It cant hurt.
