What's this gizmo for? 78 KZ1000 A2A

OK, newbie questions never stop, even three years in. On the second carb in from the left, there is a hose fitting (looks like brass) that exits up, kind of left and rearward.
what does this do? I'm running a non-vacuum non-OEM petcock, so is this yet another vacuum fitting for me to cap? I finally blocked off the one on the next carb over and it gave me a hell of a performance boost over when I pulled the bike out of the PO's garage sale.
Gimme a shout and hep me out. Thanks in advance.:silly:

Are these VM26 carbs we're talking about here?

If so, there should be two of these. One on #2, and one on #4. They are NOT vacuum ports, but are vents. You should run a hose from these two ports back into the area under the seat, above the airbox.

Here's a good reference for you:

Oh, yeah. And welcome to KZR! :)

Thanks, Skyman. Excellent link for my needs. So far, so good. I can add some vent lines. My main concern was that it need not be capped.

Back to work.

what does this do? I'm running a non-vacuum non-OEM petcock, so is this yet another vacuum fitting for me to cap?....

Some carb sets do include a 5th vacuum nipple for a hose to the petcock. Such nipple closely resembles the 2 floatbowl vent nipples (which aren't capped, and exit to open air, usually by tubes routed under the seat or under the bike).

Where a manual petcock is fitted, the 5th vacuum nipple isn't used, and should be capped (same as the other 4 vacuum nipples).

See example below.

Good Luck! :)
