Cant get the idle down!!!!!!!!!

pulling off the carbs, cleaning them, getting them bench synched i have worked out all the issues with cylinders not firing. I can actually keep a set of plugs for more than a single tank of gas without fouling them up. next problem here is that for whatever reason, once warmed up the idle stays around 4k:blink: . I have turned the idle set screw all the way out. anyone with any ideas please help.

Could be throttle cables hanging up - check and lube carefully.

Throttle linkage hanging up - check for weak springs, loose screws, bent bits, gunga.

Air leak between carb(s) and head - start bike and carefully spray brake cleaner (some use wd40) around where each carb goes into its manifold and where each manifold contacts the head. A sudden change in rpm will indicate a leak.

If they are cv carbs, does each slide go up and down easily and smootly?

Is the enrichener (incorectly called choke by some)working properly, that is does it actually close when the lever is pushed to the off position?

Maybe lack of solar flares.;)

Good luck, it's probably something simple.

Where as the idle thumb screw set when you bench synched them? If it was not in the center of its range, you may have lost the ability to use it to turn down the idle speed. Ed

check and make sure your throtle cables are adjusted properly might be keeping the slides open a bit.

I'm gonna say its either a cable problem or they were bench synced out of range. Remember, bench syncing is only supposed to be used so that the engine will run well enough that the carbs can be synced properly once they are on the bike.

so far from checking, no leaks to the head... no weak springs... cables all seem to be fine... and as far as i can tell from checking the butterflies are closing properly... do i need to pull them off again and do it all over again with the idle screw tighter so that i can back it off more???? i checked them originally with a guitar string and with the idle screw set to about 1/4 of the way in Thanks in advance as this has already given me so many different possibilities
