VM24 - Float Bowl Screws
24 Aug 2009 06:03
I have to order some things from Z1 and so I decided to also pick up a set of float bowl screws since a few of mine are becoming stripped. Problem is they list six different ones on their site for the 650 D1. Wondering how I can determine which one is the correct one for my carb (Mikuni VM24SS).
They list the following:
4x12
4x14
4x16
5x12
5x14
5x16
Is there a way of determining which one based on the current ones I have? What is the first digit and second digit actually refer to. Is it just width and length?
Thanks

they are metric so that first one would be 4mm dia by 12 mm long. if you dont have a metric measuring scale measure in inches and then convert with a converter chart online. i wish i could remember what size mine were when i had themm all apart but it escapes me right now. if you dont get an answer i can measure some later today

Go to Kawasaki, com and the carb section. Under the parts listing it should show the screw size.

Just checked Kawasaki they just list the whole carb assembly, not individual parts. This must be something new as I'm sure I looked at the breakdown last year.
Even tried the parts diagrams on Bike Bandit, but they don't list the screw dimensions.
I'll do some measuring, like fixer suggested, when I get home tonight.
Thanks guys.

if you have a good Canadian Tire store near you then you can get the stainless steel Allen Screws. They should have them in the little drawers. Thats what I did.

measure the diameter of the threaded portion with caliper and then multiply by 25.4 to go from inches to millimeters. Measure the length of the threaded portion and multiply by 25.4 to get the length in mm. The numbers are 1)outer diameter (mm) 2)length (mm) for the screws listed.

Thanks again guys.
Just went up to CT on my lunch but they never had anything. Really sparse on anything metric related. I believe Kent may have some though so I'll check them out for the allen head, as they would be great to have over the phillips.

The Babbitts Online diagrams are better than most. They seem to be fairly identical to the Kaw diagrams from a few years ago and include the full part number & other info, such as brake line length & bolt size.Just checked Kawasaki they just list the whole carb assembly, not individual parts.
