79 KZ1000 ST - Won't idle below 2K?

We have just recently rebuilt the top end and the carbs to stock on my ST.After we got her all back together ,it starts up fine but won't idle under 2k.It has pod filters and a two brother carbon fiber exhaust( I cut the Kerker and welded on the 2 Brothers),Main jets were changed to compensate for extra air flow and it has a vacuum petcock.when we turn down the Idle screw below 2K, it dies. We have tried everything.Please Help.:(

have you tried to richin your fuel mixture???? with the pods you might be getting more air therefore making it run lean????

you might need to go to a richer pilot jet id try to move the clip on the needle valve to a richer setting first if its not adjustable i have found shimming them with a 3mm flat washer works also just do any changes a little at a time

Also noticed that the carbs have 2 vacuum lines , One for the petcock and I believe the other went to the original airbox. What should we do with the second vacuum line? Just plug it up or what?

you will need to take the carbs back off and reclean them the pilot cicuits not just the pilots are plugged you will need to take spray carb cleaner and spray thru the passages and jets and then follow up wit compressed air and make sure you get air blowing out the passages if you don't keep doing it until you do that is the main reason it will not run off the enrichner circuit.

Would also assure correct ignition timing and that advancer unit is fully returning to F mark alignment at idle rpm.

don't worry about changing needle heights that will only have an effect on the midrange just worry about your pilot circuits. also make sure the vent passage in the bowl is clean and air will shoot out of that cleanly.

:laugh: I GAVE UP! I took them off and gave them to the local speed shop,Just couldn't get the dam things to behave.Thanks for all the info guys i really appreciate it.The season is too short up here in the Tundra to be screwing around with carbs.Those who can't do,PAY!:laugh:

One more thing to check, boots. On mine the boots were warped and I got too much vacuum and it blew out the fire in no. 1 cylinder. Check that.
