Bench checking of Float Levels

I've only checked and adjusted my float levels (clear tube method) with the carbs on the bike. It's a bit of a pain though getting the bowls off and such. Anyone have any tips for setting up the carbs so they can be done off the bike? How do you support them and keep them upright and level? Getting fuel to them? Any pics of your setup?

Thanks

Taking the carbs on and off the bike is a PITA. The last time I adjusted the floats I used a Black & Decker workmate to hold the carbs and I used a little fuel tank from a lawnmower with a clamp on the fuel line to the carbs.

It took about 3 or 4 on/off/adjust cycles before I had all the levels in the clear tubes just where I wanted.

Hope I dont have to do this for some time to come. I'm sure there is an easier method than mine.

Nate (NONB) came up with this great idea of using a pair of spare intake manifolds and some plywood to make a carb jig, I just added a plate to hold a drip pan.

Setting the jig up in a vice you can get the carbs level on one axis, using a C-clamp you can get them level on the other axis - works like a charm, got the float levels set spot on in about an hour.

Thats a better idea then mine but I have a vise that attaches to my bike lift. I roll it outside so I dont spill gas in the garage and clamp them in the vise in a towel & level them. I think Ill build the board setup

That's excellent guys, thanks for posting those. Great setups. I'm going to have to try and rig up something like that.
