Another petcock question...
30 Jan 2009 21:07
I just ordered a new petcock (the 12 dollor one) from Z1 I also got the adapter plate but i got the offset one because i was afraid that the side outlet on the new petcock would hit the air box so move it forward right? well do ya think I'll have to cut out the hole in the tank at all for it being so far to the front, its a 79 1000 shaft by the way?

I have one of the adapter plates on my 79 shafty and you do need to open up the hole in the tank in order to get the somewhat larger diameter innards of the new petcock in. I use a Dremel with grinding stone then finish off with a sanding drum.

I kinda thought that I would, so its okay that I got the offset one though? I shouldent have any problems with that right long as i can open up the hole to make it fit

Seems logical, but would be extra-cautious with regard to application, fitment and clearances involved, because the Z1E listing for the off-set adapter shows it being for two Suzuki models, not KZ.
Good Luck!

Also don't forget to add an inline fuel filter if ya don't already have one. Don't need to take a chance of some metal shavings to go into the carb.

thought of that too and I think its another benifit of having forward more, it will use more line and give a little more room for a filter
