KZ1100 LTD Fuel Tank Capacity

23 Jun 2007 10:49
#152074
Been through the manual but can't find where it gives the fuel tank capacity - if it does. Just finished a long trip out in west Texas and thought I was going to run out of gas for sure. Neddle was on "empty" for what seems like forever. It took 3.475 gallons when I finally came across a station (and a beer!).. Does anyone know for sure the tank capacity? I know I could empty it then refill, but I'm being lazy...
thanks

Possibly 4 gallons. My 1000 only takes 3.7 gallons and a 1000 j takes 5 gallons

Welcome Peter... good to see another local fella... on a KZ900 tank, the thing is SUPPOSED to be a 4.2 gallon tank. If you run it OUT OF GAS, you can put in 3.875 gallons... (don't ask me how I know). You could still hear a few drops sloshing around but the petcock couldn't pick up whatever was in there... The LTD tank will be smaller than the standard model for the same year.

im not sure but i can tell you that the tank on an 80 kz1000 is less than adequate when combined with a 1327,38mm flatslides and a pingle petcock!and these bikes are hard to push! :S :P

21.4 liters per the factory manual ('81 KZ1100 A1).
That is approximately 5.2 gallons.

I alos have a Spectre KZ1100 tank that is about 4.3 gallons.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think the Spectre and LTD have the same smaller tank. I had more fuel than I thought and I didn't have to promise God that I'd quit drinking if only I could make it across the Del Rio bridge ;)

Sorry I do not know which would be a bolt on, but the Shaft A1,2,3 had 5 Gallon Tanks. Which you probably saw in that earlier thread.
Have you tracked your fuel economy to see if it is above 40mpg? You can, depending on set up, get in the upper 40's to 50mpg. Maybe look at that? Bike tune/set up.

My fuel economy is 34mpg. i just cleaned carbs, new jets. i have bike tore apart at moment replacing cam chain and guides and new rings. i rode her from WI to TX. i need someone that knows how to set up carbs and all to tweak mine.

My point is every 100 miles I have to put on fuel. I would love to have a larger tank to get 150. i have no clue on frames and stuff. is there a larger tank with the tab that fits in the hole by top of seat?

If you know, spread the word. Thanks
