Has anyone seen this Kawasaki part? It screws into the float bowl where the drain plug is and provides an easy way of checking the float levels.

Someone has to have seen this before!
I'd love to get my hands on one. I've been trying to get a 6mm x 0.75 pitch male flow-thru type connector to make one of these up myself but I simply can not find the threaded hardware in that size thread. I can't even find a 6mm bolt with a 0.75 pitch. If I could then I could drill through the center of it and make a connection somehow from it to a section of clear fuel line. Anyone have any ideas?

Use a 1/4" vacuum fitting to screw into the 6mm/.75 pitch hole in a bowl. The 1/4" fitting is slightly larger than 6mm and a vacuum fitting is made of hard rubber/plastic stuff and once screwed in, won't leak much. The vacuum fitting is a straight through connector (connects two hoses). Then put a piece of clear plastic tubing on the end. Since I set the float levels in a set of carburetors almost every day, I stuck one in a float bowl and JB Weld-ed it in and it doesn't leak a drop. If you need a reference at the other end for the gas level, you can make your own marks I guess... there was also a Kawasaki tool that was essentially plastic tube that had gradient marks on it every 1mm. I had one and used to use it but it got brittle and fell apart. I recall I paid just under $20 from a dealer. This tool is used for many Kaw applications and you might want to look in a Vulcan parts listing under tools as I know it is there.

wiredgeorge for the great idea of using a 1/4" vacuum fitting. I've been busting chops for the last few days searching out a source for a threaded fitting of the proper thread size.

Now, within a few hours of posting, I have options!

There is a Kaw float level tool on eBay right now. I think it would only work on Z1/Z1A bikes and is being sold by a seller from Sweden. I think it was at about $40... I am not trying to push anyone toward buying just pointing out you can look at one of these if you like while the auction is still running. I also believe it may have been marked as working on KZ900/KZ1000 bikes and I don't think it will based on the 17mm fitting you screw into the bottom of the bowl (like a VM28SC from 73/74).

That is the one I was referring to... It won't fit any of the bikes listed in the auction except the Z1/Z1A which use the 17mm NPT threaded fitting shown. The other/later bikes listed use a 6mm fitting with .75 metric thread.

This tool might work with Mikuni VM29 and VM33 smoothbore carbs.

ROn - different sized thread on the tool - I have one here and it works perfectly on the early Z1 carbs, but that's it - it doesn't seem to fit any others.
