Maaaaan. I had to have one made last year turned to 16.998. Great deal again for someone.

I made a box for mine last week .

Someone save themselves the headache of having one made and snap this up!

As noted by MR. E, a Great deal. You Cannot use a piece of 17mm stock rod right off the shelf, has to be turned down a bit to be proper. I had a Friend that worked at a Bakery, albeit sounds crazy, they had a Super expensive CNC machine. So my Friend would make 2-3 of these index rods on his lunchbreak for me. Mine had a thicker portion not turned to suffice as a handle, Groovy! Have sold all the one's with the exception the one i use. While i got the Smoken" deal of Free, machine shops are not soo accordingly friendly. Who wants to make money, all of us? Can i suggest purchasing Daveo's offering? Be Super Wise if i didn't already have one, i'd buy one too. Great addition to anyone's tool reserve.

Can someone explain how this is used?
I have not come across this in a service manual.
And a quick search didn't bring up the answers I was hoping for.

The rod sizing is designed to be a smig undersize.  Perfect for this application.

It's for checking that the crankshaft alignment is within tolerance and hasn't got any significant twist or bent conrods etc
If the crank is straight the rod will slip straight through all the little end eyes with no force as shown in the first pic of this thread.
If the crank is out of alignment or has a bent conrod etc it will only slide through only two or three in which case the crank will need trueing or the conrod fault remedied.
