Maybe you'll be lucky and the underside of the gasket won't have the rtv

Having been sent the wrong aftermarket gasket, I've bitten the bullet and got a genuine part from Z power uk ( £58 !! ) do I assume that the sealant around the edge goes motor side down ? Also if you look at the pictures it doesn't go all the way around some of the holes. Should I connect them up with yamabond or such like or just bolt it down ??

Check the manual but I suspect the flat side sits on the head and the ridge against the cover - with a genuine gasket you shouldn't need sealant

Thanks, you can really see and feel the difference in quality between oem and aftermarket parts. Even the way they put extra sealant around ends where the cam plugs go. I'm still gonna put a thin smear over the cam plugs though. Should I do that the night before and let it set or do it when I fit the gasket ??

All back together. I don't have a small torque wrench so I've used my 4" ratchet and tightened them by feel. They're tight but I've not gone mad with them. I'm away on holiday for a week so won't run it till I'm back, when I do start it should I get it up to operating temperature, then let it cool completely then retorque everything ??

You don't need to re-torque the cam cover but it wouldn't hurt to re-check (don't be tempted to "give it a little more")

Should be fine. Ride it, and if the cover ain't leaking just leave it alone.

Well, started her up today after putting everything back together. Took the carbs off and gave em a good clean at the same time, runs really well now and after 2 heat cycles I'm glad to say no leaks from the valve cover 😀
