What grade of oil would anyone recomend. My bike call for 10/40 I put valvoline atv 10/40 in but it gets whitish and there is no wat there is any moisture in that motor. The valvoline specificly said it was good for wet clutches so I gave it a try.

Does anyone use 20/50 any problems like mentioned above or any brand better than another??

No moisture in the crankcase? You live in an area with 0% humidity??
Moisture gets into the crankcase via condensation, about the only way to prevent that is to keep it at the same temp all the time.

Taking it on long rides will normally evaporate all the water from the crankcase.

I ran 20w-50 in my 750 twin for awhile, then switched to Rotella 10W-40 and don't notice any difference (except it costs less) :)

Thanks for the info, what I meant is there is no way that water is leaking in my oil that I know of. Moisture is a given we are next to the Atlantic Ocean and I use my bike for a commuter to and from work, it never gets over 60 kms /hr.

Castrol 10W-40 Grand Prix motorcycle oil is readily available here from both Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart so I use it in both my bikes, changing every 3500km or sooner. At 60 km/hr your bike is just idling, try to run it up to at least 100km/hr to get that moisture out:)

whiteish???
if it looks like milkshake-- you have water in the oil.
just a little evaporates with engine heat but a lot will plug the oil pump after it gets churned and mixed up.
20/50 in summer 10/40 in winter
use motorcycle specific oil due to sheer factor. Auto oil does not handle the transmission sheer and lubrication value goes away in a matter of just a couple miles. even if it still looks like honey.

we had some people next door and the kids would fill the crankcase of his bike with the hose as they were playing. Big mess more than once.

I have to disagree with that (and I have the research to back it up), that's just something the oil companies say in order to get you to spend the extra $$ for their so called "Motorcycle specific oil"

Actual research published by MCN is at the link below.

MCN article

And keep in mind that if that were true you would certainly notice it, the oil would be so thin you would loose oil pressure and when you drained the oil it would run like water.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I drain the oil out of my bike after 2000 miles, it is still thick.

I forgot to mention that a "lot" of members use automotive oil in their bikes, I'd almost bet that combined we have over a million miles of experience with automotive oil in KZ's :)

Cool, so I should run wet-clutch friendly 20-50 in my 650 CSR this summer?
