TOPIC:

Finished up coating the interior of the tank on 82 GPZ1100 and getting ready to put it back together.  Have new gaskets for the petcock, sending unit and check valve.  The check valve gasket is a paper gasket.  Do I need a sealant for this gasket when I assemble this? if so, will any sealant work as the shoulder of the check valve is screwed into place or do I need something specific for the rotational friction? 

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI ordered s tube of this fuel resistant gasket sealant. Haven't used it yet, but was looking for a sealant that would not dissolve when submerged in gasoline.

Yeah, I saw that was in stock at the local advanced auto parts.  I will pick up a tube of it.  Just hoping it can handle the rotational friction as it squishes down 

I've got a few packages of PPG PS890 aerospace grade fuel tank sealant if you are interested.  We use the stuff where I work in large quantity and these packages just expired in shelf life a couple months ago.  In our company the second something goes out of shelf life it gets sent to the scrap bin...where I scoop up the unopened packages because the stuff is still fine for a good long time.  Send me a PM if interested.  Yours for the cost of shipping.

BTW, this stuff is damn expensive and it's a shame for it to go to waste.

Thanks for the offer, was hoping to put this back together and see if the stuck check valve was the reason that the engine was running so fast.  Really want to take this thing around block after all this work. 

Have to ask, is this the check valve you are talking about???
The check vale tend to be clogged with rust and then get stuck = not fuel will flow back into the fuel tank.
It can be disassemble with a drift punch if needed. Take pics tomorrow....

 

that's exactly it. the bike wasn't running right when I got it together last month.  the fuel pressure was too high (50 psi).  when I took it apart and drained the tank the tank was full of varnish so, I cleaned it out and coated it. I am just curious if I need a dressing on the new gasket or if treat it like a paper washer and  tighten it down. any advice is appreciated.  

Ask your local water/heating/gas installer for the gasket. It´s a 2 cent gasket for him....

already have a new one. just asking if it needs any dressing before assembly. 

I would install it without a gasket sealant.

Use the gasket as it comes, no need for any sealant or so....

 

Any kind of copper/aluminum washer did the same job....
