He milled the reed cages as low as he could without compromising the cover, then made his own cover plates. Much lower and less obnoxious than just a cover over the tall cage.

I've read about how the 1/4-20's will thread right in ! Well no. 1/4" -20 is only .014" bigger. Use an M7X 1.00 Helicoil and put a M6X1.00 inside that. It takes a bit to set in ,with the torque wrench, but once it does its solid. 85 inlbs. So, I'm thinking I'm a smart feller and discover they do this in the aviation industry all the time . double helicoil.
I hope this helps a couple of you.
If the M6 cap bolt is simply stripped then you just need an M6 helicoil, nothing more.
The double Helicoil method you refer to is called Twinsert and made by Stanley...
There are also oversize coils to correct tapping errors etc and these use a thicker cross section wire and a slightly larger tap but allow the correct bolt to be used.
Another choice is the solid Wurth type insert .
The Twinsert , although approved by the aviation industry etc is the last method I would use and is what I consider to be a professional bodge.
If the hole is oversize for a stock helicoil or Wurth then either an oversize coil or solid Wurth BIG SERT is the best option.
