I thoroughly looked into the Delkavic pipes before buying a set for my 78 1000 ltd. Because removing pipes for an oil change is a PITA. The one thing no one mentioned is to remove the drain plug # 4 pipe has to be removed. Maybe its my fault but That Sucks because I had to touch the pipes. Ive never been Mr immaculate doing an oil change, So if I had Known this I would have gone Kerker. Oh well Bike is sold anyway ,,,, to my son.... I wont buy another set.

Funny back when I was younger taking the kerker off my 550 to do an oil change didnt bother me a bit . Now its the last thing I want to do when doing an oil change .

Hmmm. My Kerker does not need to come off for an oil change. I wouldn't like that at all...

The V/H that made 5% more power had to come off to change the oil filter was more money. The one I have now is a PITA to get to the filter but doable. I miss my cross over 2/1 Jardine "tuned exhaust".

I've been wanting a Delkevic for a 550, but they don't make them. Removal for oil change does suck. As easy as an oil change is to do, I don't seem to ever want to do it.
The Mac header for a 550 does not require removal, but it does feel and sound like a cheap system (because it is cheap).

I cant even get a box end wrench over the drain plug, with out removing the right #4 pipe. Its a good thing I only used A small amount of the silicone on the bend leaving the collecter going to the tail pipe

A true 180⁰ tuned system with the classic, balanced look of two collectors, one on each side, that paired cylinders 1&4 into a collector @ 180⁰ firing order, and cylinders 2&3 into the other collector, also @ 180⁰. Exemplary street performance. Retained the centerstand, plus easy oil filter & drain plug access. The baffles produce a sweet, deep bass exhaust note without the irritating high frequency component that lesser systems failed to attenuate. The bends necessary to achieve four truly equal-length head pipes resulted in a tangled-looking, asymmetrical headpipe system that's an acquired visual taste. Too, the headpipes were single-wall, resulting in the chrome bluing somewhat at the first bends, something unavoidable on single-wall pipes even with optimum jetting. Overall, the Jardine 4/2 system weighs slightly more than 4/1 systems but, I never cared about a few pounds. The pleasant exhaust note, serviceability and aesthetics were & still are worth it.
Hooker also made a 4/2 crossover system that the headpipe crossovers were perfectly symmetrical at the cost of sacrificing equal length headpipes. I saw far more Jardine systems in the day than the Hookers.
After production of the Jardine 4/2 Z1 systems ceased I tried mightily to make the Jardine 4/2 system for a KZ1000 fit, but the headpipe bends were all wrong. Lacking the skill and/or funds for custom fabrication in the day, I gave up on fitting them to a Z1.
Rumor has it that after Jardine's acquisition by SuperTrapp, the original Z1 4/2 pipe jigs still exist, gathering dust someplace.

I wish I would have kept my Denco 4 into one that I had on my Z1B back in the day. Didn't have to take it off to change the oil and it sounded great. Still trying to find a good used one, but I think I will find the proverbial "pot-o-gold" first.
