Exhaust leak at the head is most valve clicking problems.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Came here to post the same thing. I had an exhat leak on one outlet sounded just like a valve tap. Luckily I checked the header before tearing into the engine.

Hey all,
I am back! Finally got around to getting back into the valves to double check measurements for clearance since the ticking noise persists. So far my final final measurements from when I wrapped up the job earlier this year are holding true. I found that Intake Valves 2 & 4 are slightly above OEM spec with I2 @ .254 and I4 @ .203. Everything else is within spec and I also changed exhaust gaskets. I am left wondering if I should go back into the valves to get I2 & 4 within spec clearance or if I should just call it good enough at this point. Does anyone else have any input about my findings?
Thanks!

If you go to the top end of the spec, they will definitely be louder than at the low end. That tick tells you the metal-to-metal impact is happening harder than when it is quiet.

The manual shows the correct valve clearance as 0.08 - 0.18 mm. Since you know that two valves are not within the specified range (and .254 is way out of range) it would make sense to me to correct that known problem before going any further. Ed
