It would be a good idea to chase down a copy of the police supplement for your year. The Clymer is better than no manual, but the factory manual and supplement are more specific, and usually more detailed.

I found one factory supplement for 1975 to 1985 Police, would that cover an 86?

Probably. Every model was subject to occasional changes throughout its model run, hence the need for supplements. I am not familiar enough with the minutia of the police bikes to know if there was a change in something between 1985 and 1986. I'd be willing to bet that if there was a change, it would be a minor one.

Yea probably so what I’ve read they pretty close in all years. I downloaded that one from this site and I have the clymers and gonna order that supplement it ain’t but a few bucks. But between the 3 I should have what I need. Still gonna run it by u guys I’d rather talk to experience than trust my understanding of the manuals

Clymer manual? Um.. only if you want to change spark plugs.. and even then it is pretty much a useless book. I especially like the parts that tell you that what you are looking up is beyond the "scope" of a average owner, and should be taken to a shop.. Too generalized, and tries to cover too many years to get specific on anything. A total waste of money IMHO. There are free E-Books on KZR. Here is the 81-83 Kz1100 and Kz1000 J motor bikes, which are pretty close to what you have. I didn't see a 86 manual listed there. Good luck with your bike!

Clymers does have a manual that is specific to the KZP. And while I share your concern with the Clymers manuals it was correct in the proper clutch set-up where the factory manual was incorrect. I have a thread about it here when I was stranded in North Carolina.

Standard with wrong info from a manual doesn’t sound fun at all. I saw in ur signature Atlanta Ga. I’ve been to Duluth ( I think that’s how u spell it ) a couple times to buy different bikes. I live down in Ashford Al southeast corner bout ten minutes from either Ga or Fl lines.

While I have no direct knowledge of the Clymer manual, my experiences is of aftermarket manuals in general. I think some things get lost in the translation of the OEM manual. The FSM that I posted also doesn't have the plate stacking order of the clutch, but that will not strand anyone by not stacking the clutch plates properly. As a mater of fact.. I did not even know about the proper plate stacking orientation until daveo pointed it out to me. There are also design changes that are not picked up in the manuals

That said.. even a broken clock is right twice a day. :S

Clymer still sells the M451-3 manual for ~30 bucks new.
