I have always used 95 octan fuel since I got the bike, but is it a problem to use 98?

98 have 0% etanol and 95 has 10%, so 98 has higher quality, storage, less problem jet need to be clean etc I understand....

Running high octane in a (carburetor) bike can cause a rich burn and actually negatively affect performance. The KZ engine is very sensitive to raised octane.

I run an (AFR monitor) on my bike and can see the Air Fuel Ratio drop into a rich mixture when octane and carb jetting settings don't correspond.

Use the right gas/octane and a gas additive to keep gas fresh and ethanol effects limited.

The higher the compression the higher the octane , your bike with a big bore kit will probably benefit from 95.
I have a stock engine and run 87 octane. unless it is real hot out and the engine starts knocking but that is rare.
We burn 85 in the mountains when we can get it, plus I turn air screws out 1/4 turn

I'd run the cheap stuff unless the engine is knocking.

Thank you all,

I think I will stay with 95 octan then, it`s running well... and add some gas additive no and then.. and when I storage it for the winter.

One thing to note - the 'octane' rating in one part of the world will be different to another. Most of the riders here are from the US I think, and they tend to use the Anti Knock Index (AKI) as the 'octane rating'. In Australia and Europe, the Research Octane Number (RON) tends to be used.

So when people say that they're running '87 octane', that's usually 87 AKI - which is about 91-92 RON. It's confusing since 91 RON and 91 AKI are both common fuels, but 91 AKI has a higher knock rating than 91RON.

I imagine they use RON in Norway, so when you say '95 octane', it probably means 95 RON, which is about 91 AKI. And that's fine to use. In fact, 91, 95 and 98 RONwill all run fine on a standard engine. I use 91 RON because there is no real benefit of premium fuels - I have no issues with knocking.

Thank you for the explanation.

It’s not all stations who has 98 RON :) any longer either, before all was using it.

The bike goes well with 95 RON, just investigate things todo to avoid corrosion in the tank :)

to avoid corrosion in the tank over the winter time or longer storage to stabilize the fuel use Bactofin.
100 ml stabilize 100liter of fuel.
