No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
No spare then? I'll start looking for a ZR7 then. I'll have to swing by my local salvage yard, etc.
I did find this on ebay though. I'd buy it but my wife would draw and quarter me and put my head on a post.

but now that I'm street riding it and a Texas summer starting I think I'll swap back to the cooler pan.

That is a really good deal as long as you don't have to have it shipped.
I debated doing a zr-7 engine swap for a long long time, but between the zr-7 no longer having the lower front frame mounts, they used a completely different ignition rotor (The crank shaft is splined at the end like an output shaft where the bizzaro ignition rotor connects) that requires a more complicated/specialized ignition system (I'm using a Zephyr 750 ignition rotor and ECU that bolts straight up), and the fact that they still make less HP than a gpz750 I decided to pass.
Plus I am putting a gpz550 6-speed transmission in mine while it is apart, so I would have still had to split the zr-7 motor cases anyway.
But it's really cool to see that turboguzzi made it work.

Hey Daft,
You said that you are putting a GPz550 6 speed tranny in yours GPz750, is that correct? Do you have a thread chronicling this as I am curious to learn more and have some questions, just don't want to thread jack Moto's engine post? Can you give me a link to your thread, or should I just PM you a few of my questions, what is best for you?
Thanks,
Brett

Cool swap too bad you didn't get the exhaust with the engine as well. I put one on a 650 I had and man is it nice. Whisper quiet, made with stainless steel and really performs well.

I am putting a 6-speed in a kz750e, but its exactly the same case as the gpz750's. I have been procrastinating on starting a build thread for my project bike, so If I haven't started one in a couple of days, and if you have questions you can PM me. I apologize to all for kinda having gone off on a tangent on Turboguzzi's post.

I'm not sure if the 6 speed will work in the GPz motor because of the diff. clutch setup.
The shaft the clutch hub bolt's on has oil pressure to feed the clutch and had what
look's like a roller bearing that fit's in the clutch end as a oil restricter to keep from over oiling the clutch.
I think on the KZ motor's the clutch push rod does the same thing and the shaft may not be drilled to fit the roller.

You are correct in that the 1983-85 Uni-Trac gpz750's had a completely different clutch actuator than the non-push rod style clutch in the gpz/zx550, zr550, zr750, Turbo, and zr-7. But....The push-rod style kz750e and the Uni-trac gpz750's all share the same transmission shaft.
Kawasaki Part # 13127-1018 SHAFT
I compared my gpz550 transmission and the kz750 transmission and they both have a 10mm bore that is 34-40mm deep (the kz750 shaft is 6mm~ longer) that the pushrod ball bearing and plunger ride in. As I have never seen a Uni-trac gpz750 clutch actuator in real life, I wonder if the 92122-1019 ROLLER,10X12 just is kind of an oil restriction plug that floats in the transmission shaft bore and is held in place by oil pressure???

The GPz unitrac motor's are not KZ's they are a ZX motor but are the same family
of motor and looking on Partzilla it look's like the shaft is the same so the
6 speed should work in a ZX motor.
As for holding the roller in oil pressure will push it out of the shaft
the mushroom puller holder hold's it in it float's in and out as the clutch pressure plate move's.
When I had my case's split I left it out by mistake and with the clutch lever pulled in and the motor
running it would fill the clutch with oil to the point in about30 second's it would start pulling like

So a GPz550 6 speed tranny as a whole unit could be swapped into the 83-85 Uni-Track 750's is what I'm hearing right? If so way kewl and in time will want to do this swap myself, cruising at 80-85mph I'm hitting 5500-6000rpms depending on grade and passing etc for extended periods and I don't like constantly running an air cooled engine at those speeds sustained. Would make it tough to travel anymore than 4hrs tops on it trying to make a destination. Curious how the different gearing in 1-6 would affect acceleration at the slow speeds since this is such a rocket off the line as is.
Sorry to jack your thread Dave, wasn't my intention but I appreciate you sharing some thoughts and experience on it all the same too!

Re: zr7 motor in KZ750

That is exactly why I am going through so much trouble to do the swap while I have the engine apart. I can't relax when cruising at 6000rpm's on the highway.
But to get the desired drivability, It not only takes factoring in the gear ratios of the 550 transmission, but the front and rear sprockets teeth count/ratio, chain pitch and the rear wheel and tire sizes. The cool thing is you can use the 6-speed from any kz550, gpz550, zr550 and even the 85-90 zx600 ninjas, as they all have the same gear ratios. The zx600's and the zr550's have a longer output shaft, which means your front sprocket may not need to be offset depending on how wide of a rear tire you have.
Not even getting into the clutch hub modifications needed to make the conversion work, there are so very many variables to consider and research before even turning a wrench or buying parts to do the swap. But I did, I have and I am.
