2-4 crossover style exhaust...
04 Nov 2015 07:05 - 04 Nov 2015 07:32
Anyone here have any experience with a 4-2 cross over type system?
I'm curious about the sound and performance characteristics compared to a 4-1

My bad...
A 4 with 2 mufflers with cylinders 1 and 4 merging into one muffler and cylinders 2 and 3 merging into another.
It's the correct system on a Goose build and I have one coming from Japan, but I was just curious if anyone had any first hand experience with this configuration.

If a factory system, as found on the 77' KZ 1000.... It will make max power and be amazingly quiet! That stock system was a semi-marvel of engeering.

Some KZ650 models came with 4>2 cross-over exhaust system. They were rated as having 2hp less than the normal 4>2 system. Ed

04 Nov 2015 14:01Do you mean a 4-2 with a crossover pipe ahead of the mufflers?PDXDave wrote: Anyone here have any experience with a 4-2 cross over type system?

If so:
A good 4-1 system will make more HP in the peak power range but probably have a little less power at the low RPM range.
Systems with a crossover pipe generally make more low RPM power which is why stock systems use them.

I believe he meant a system where the pipes cross like the KZ650-SR shown below. Ed

I needed no jetting changes going from a Mac 4/1 to a SR system with the crossover plugged.
And that was on a 750/4.

I have a set of Jardine "Double Header" pipes with turnout mufflers. They sound great - good rumble but not too loud. Not sure about performance. I did mine for looks. I had an old crappy rusted out 4 into 1 before going with these, which I bought from someone on KZR. They were pretty ratty but steel wool and time fixed them up nice.
As far as I know Jardine made similar models for Hondas called the "spaghetti' pipe. That's about all I know.

Mines a PMC and aside from no instructions and incorrectly numbered head pipes, it went together without a hitch. Beautiful build quality and fit.
I can't wait to get her dialed in and hear it.

That PMC system looks really nice by the way! Costly, but very nice. Goose as in Jim Goose?
