Oil Cooler Questions.

When I remover the oil pipe and add my oil cooler fittings to the upper case.....is there a output fitting and imput fitting.

Which fitting pumps the oil to the cooler and which one is the return line?

Its a pre-J engine.

Take a look at omrs build post,hes got everything pretty well documented

Lower fitting (where oil switch fits into) off top of engine case is fed from oil pump down below.
This 3/8ths line will feed into either end of the oil cooler.

The return line from the other end of the cooler will go to the upper case fitting behind the cylinder (right side of rear engine, oil pressure screw tube)thus feeding oil back into the system being passed up into/through the rear cylinder studs up to the head.

One with thread for oil switch, mounts to top of engine case.

I know that the pressure switch fitting is 1/4 inch NPT.

Looks like the other fitting has a bigger thread size......anyone know this size?

3/8ths line on both cooler feeds into barbed fittings.... Same....

Im going to run AN fittings on mine....so need to remove barb fittings.

OMR, do you have pics. of the best way to route the hoses, from cooler to fittings ?... Pete

Can't really say what's the BEST but for me the shortest route possible would be the best....

Under engine case seemed a PITA for oil changes and possible punctures not to mention added heat off exhaust.

Over engine also seemed a PITA due to heat on lines, kind of defeats the purpose of an oil cooler (to cool the oil down)....
