You should take it apart and clean it. It may just be dirty.
The original one is a good one if it's not damaged. Sometimes they get damaged through improper maintenance.
There are several manuals in my signature.
Also, there is a valve train warning in my signature you should read.

Thanx but it rattles and I think its one of the 2.01 that u have to change to a 1.8 becuase the twos were cheap springs. Well thats what the book says on the cam chain tensioner.

Thanks!, here's the build, sorta similar to yours...

I'm not aware of a source for the tensioner. You could maybe try Kawasaki if you're looking for another stock one. Someone had recently just had a thread about using a manual one. It might be in the engine forum. I'm not sure where he got it, maybe APE or Z1 Enterprises?
Maybe post a question to the guy in this thread:

Are you thinking of Kreiger cam chain tensioners? They are a manual option to the Kaw automatic units. You can find them here:

I decided to try rebuilding mine before trying this, but the guy is real friendly and helpful and his Web page is informative.

I didn't have the money to get a new tensioner, so what I am going to do is basically turn my automatic one into a manual one.
I figure if I just use a longer bolt on the shaft, I could just lock it in place yeah. Like the procedure for removing it.
Loosen the bolt, let it extend as per how the manual says to adjust it, then tighten the longer bolt back down on it. I figure it'll cost me 10 cents or so for the bolt...
This is of course just my plan, but if anyone sees a flaw in it that I'm not seeing, I would greatly appreciate your input.
