Any tips for holding the camshaft while removing the camshaft sprocket bolts and reinstalling them?

I was thinking of doing that or using a couple pieces of soft wood, just wasn't sure how well it would hold.

if u plan on degreeing them, it's easier to do it in the motor.
I put the vicegrips on the sprocket.

That must be it - I am left handed.

Nah, I have to swap the sprockets from my 650 cams to my 750 cams - these buggers are on there pretty good.

A vice grips Mark? I assume you don't hold them really tight....although Injected pointed out that the sprockets on the 650s were harder than on the 900/1000 bikes.

A vise with brass or aluminum angle iron covering the jaws.
They are assembled with a permanent locking agent.
Make sure you use a 6 point wrench or socket. I have rounded them off in the past.

Thanks - yeah, I can see the residue on the threads of the one I got off, and I did round it slightly.

Good thing I have two sets of camshafts to rob bolts from

I use an old cam chain, wrap it around the sprocket and tight the ends of the chain in a vise. I believe Kawasaki used some sor tof locking agent on the bolts when they assembled them. I ahve had a few that were on really tight.
