It sounds like the tank is mounted improperly if it's that close. Has it been modified? Got any pictures showing the tank's position compared to the valve cover? Ed

Gonna take pictures, Be right back!

Tank is stock judge by the picture i will post in a minute

---

I do always run on PRIME to bypass the vacuum system i case that thing fail to deliver fuel.Either way its the same. Tubing get empty (gas vapor)... Change two time the gas cap ... even ran few stops with gas cap opened still get fuel starvation on long stop. Fuel in the tank is around 40-45C (104F-113F)

Pictures!

Before you start looking at these picture the Petcock is closed at the time picture where taken (ON position but vaccum capped, PRIME is ON and ON or RES is OFF)

---

See the air in the line ... now its small but there because engine is half temperature (stopped 15 mins ago)... I get barely little fuel (boiling??) on long idle at stops on PRIME(ON,forget the vacuum problem it's bypassed)!!!!!!

What do you think guys???

I think the relation of the tank/ petcock is normal. They are close. My 82 1000 LTD gets a lot of fuel evaporating out the vent after shut off. That motor is hot and on mine the tank is black. The sun will heat it enough to do the same if it stays in direct sun light.
Now the fuel line getting air, try pulling the fuel line off and feed it into a seperate container and check the flow rate. You should get a steady flow from your tank/ petcock into another container. Probably around a quart every couple of minutes. I know you've had the petcock and screen out, but maybe there is a internal blockage?

I empty my tank this way on prime... the flow is very good when i unplug the gas line don't know where the air comes (could be evaporated fuel too! and not air from somewhere)...

I know you've had the petcock and screen out, but maybe there is a internal blockage?

Yeah i will check the petcock internals, maybe some stuff is going on inside:P ..

Btw, what is the ultimate ON/OFF petcock to buy.... is it possible to have a bolt on solution? The petcock on z1 enterprise look for small cc engine...!

I need an adapter plate for this petcock right ?

I searched the web and looked at a bunch of pictures of other bikes like yours, and yes, the petcock/tank/valve cover geometry looks exactly the same as yours. As motorhead suggested, maybe the flow rate is impeded by something? Your engine is a larger bore, does it run excessively hot? I wonder why Ma Kaw placed the petcock in that position? Mine is to the rear of the carbs. Ed

What a nice clean bike (engine too) you have 650ed! :)

What i find wrong with the hypothesis of the debris or bad petcock is the bike perform like a champ until i go to idle for prolonged time (ex:red lights, stops)!

I will take it off (the petcock) and do a closer inspection!

eh.. looks like fuel is a bitch sometimes...especially when gravity fed!
