ZR7S Exhaust

Just a question, does anyone know if the 2000+ ZR7 muffler can be removed from the pipe easily? I want to get it powdercoated since it looks terrible. And I can't have a look at mine since I'm in Germany.

Tyler, are you talking about the stock muffler? If so, it seems that it has a fairly long midpipe that is part of the muffler, but it comes loose from the header underneath of the bike. I have no first hand experience, but just looking at internet pictures. If it's an aftermarket pipe, then who knows. They all seem to separate from the header some how.

Its stock, but I seem to remember it being all one piece. But I've only held it in my hands once, then I came here.

When will you get home? Christmas?

That would be weird to have a one piece exhaust, but I guess it is possible on that bike. You can always take it off with one of these:

That muffler comes off easily, it is held on by 3 bolts and then it just slides off. I have one on my KZ650 and I love it, nice power and real quiet. The looks took some getting used to though.

Thanks Gringo, I dont remember seeing the bolts but like I said I never really looked at it closely. I'm gonna get it powdercoated either in silver vein or black chrome.

There is a little cover piece that they are hiding under. IIRC the cover is held in place with a couple of allen bolts. Once that cover comes off the bolts are right there. Actually now that I think about it I believe the muffler can has 3 studs coming out of it and they go in the flange on the main pipe then there are nuts and washers to hold it all together.

Just got one of these (a ZR7 exhaust) off a buddy for free.
Sure seems to be heavy.
Didn't notice the 3 bolts, it all looked welded together to me.
Mine is black, and I'm seeing lots of chromeish ones.
Is there a separate cover over where the 4 pipes enter the collector?
Looks like in pictures, but I can't find parts diagrams for the ZR7 on Kawasaki's site.
Do these pipes need different mounting flanges and collars for the headers or will the 650 ones fit?

Thanks for that link Martin.
B)

The pipe I have seems a little different.
The header mounting flanges are attached on the pipe I have, the ones in the parts diagrams have no flanges, but use separate bolt on flanges and split collars.
The pipe I have has only one crossover/connection tube between the 1&4 header, out front, where as the parts diagrams show two crossovers, 1&4 on the rear, and a small one between 2&3.
Any idea what year this pipe came off?
