Some folks have mentioned removing everything, then lay the frame/engine over in the grass, then lift the frame off the engine.

Another option is to tear down the engine as much as possible (remove head, cylinders, etc.) while it's in the frame. With stuff removed engine is lighter and smaller. Also, drain oil and leave plugs out so they don't hang up on frame. Ed

that is just beautiful!
Try this,
Get everything ready for it to come out.
Get a cold 12 pack.
Call 2 big friends over.
Give them 1 beer.
Have them pull the engine AND put it on the work bench.
You supervise of course.
Give them 1 more beer each.
Thank them and send them on their way.
Now the good part,,,,,,,,
Turn up the music ,
AND you have 8 cold beers while you tare down and make your parts list.
Works for me every time
that is just beautiful!
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

OK, so I have everything off, almost ready for the engine to come out, how do I remove the drive chain? I am thinking that I should loosen the rear wheel to slacken the chain, then remove those clips on the c/s sprocket and remove sprocket, is that right?

look for a master link in the drive chain and take it out then you can seperate the chain or if you have an impact gun remove the counter shaft sprocket and the chain will come right off.
