My z1 motor wont turn over

Ok, i went to kick over my motor in the z1 after i got it in the frame, i wanted to get the cams timed in. And low and behold it was stuck in place. So i took off the head, and poured some automatic transmission fluid down each of the cylinders in hopes of freeing it up. How long should i wait for the trans fluid to do its magic? Im bummed out because im so close to getting her read to run. Any ideas guy's? Thank's, Jim

usually i just dump some gas/oil down the plug holes and let it sit overnight and try again.can you turn it over with kick starter? if its stuck dont try turnining it over with the bolt under points cover, use kick starter.did you drain the oil out when you pulled the motor, what have you done to the motor?;)

I tried with the kicker yesterday and it was a no go. Ya i drained the oil in the motor because i had to replace the oil pan gasket and i polished all the engine covers, i had the head off to replace it with one from a 1979 kz 1000. Other than that nothing else has been done. I know not to turn the bolt under the points cover because i read about it sheering off.

try kicking it over slowly while the head is still off make sure to pull slack out of timing chain 1st so it dont ball up on the crank sprocket, youll need to buy a new base gasket and head gasket anyway.let us know if it moves that way ;)

I agree with plummen. I have had the timing chain get beside the sprocket and not turn over.

The cylinders are still on the bike so no need for a base gasket, but i do have a new 2 peice head gasket and rubber o-ring for the middle. I will let ya know if i get her free. Im going to try it tommorow and see if i can get it free.

I wouldn't pull the jugs. If anything i would pull the oil pan. A good time to clean out 30+ years of crud. Roy

Ya thats why i didnt pull the jugs because after i put the head on before the teardown the compression came up to 117 in all the cylinders so the rings are good. I think the time the motor sat idle the rings stuck to the cylinders, hence the reason i put some trans fluid down the cylinders.....im hoping that will do the trick. When i originally pulled the pan there was no sludge what so ever on the pan it was really clean for being a 35 year old motor, i did clean the pump real good though.
