V/H Exhaust, Which one fits?
17 Jan 2008 17:52
Hey guys. My first question, hopefully it wasn't answered already. I searched around the site and didn't notice it. So here it is. I have a 1979 KZ 1000 LTD Im cleaning up. I want to put a new exhaust system on it, original pipes are shot, V/H is the most affordable. The problem i am having is there are to different street header part numbers 13013 and13017LTD. Depending on what techs i have talked to at what stores. I am told that one or the other will fit,and the other definitely wont. I even had the same tech from V/H on two different occasions tell me contradicting results. So I was hoping someone out there had one of these pipes on their bike and knew if it actually does or doesnt fit my bike. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you look at the V&H site, the 13013 is designated for your bike...the 13017LTD is for the KZ900LTD. I suspect that the confusion lays with the fact that the 1000 and 900 models are very similar.

Usually the difference is how the megaphone attaches to the rear footpeg mount. Some bolt right up, some use a simple strap and there is one that has a more complicated looking mounting hardware but it's still fairly simple. I wouldn't worry about that part much.
1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

you'll have to have an exhaust shop open the megaphone end of the slip connector up for them to fit togeather, my exhaust guy did it for free.

Thanks guys, Youve all been more helpful than the V/H guys. I guess ill just pick one and make it fit. I guess there are better fitting pipes out there, I just have cheap blood.
