I'm looking for another winter project to restore. Someone about 300km away offered me this bike but said "make an offer. "He claims "New chain & sprockets. Fork seals and steering head bearings just done. Really just needs a paint job. New seat.Supertrapp 4 into 1. I also have the original pipes in good shape. Also have new replica decals for the 78 paint scheme and brand new kz1000 emblems for the side covers.
Not sure about km's yet.
For a bike located in Northern Ontario, what do you think it is worth?
Note, I am a stickler for originality or as close as I can get.
The seat, gas tank and or gas cap doesn't look right to me.

The seat is right, but the gas cap is not. It's missing the grab rail behind the seat which makes it look different. If it comes with original 2 into 1 pipes in good shape, I'd say the exhaust alone is worth $1,500.
Back in the saddle and loving it! KZ1000A1

I have no idea what sort of value to place on it.  Did the seller provide any frame or engine # info?  Does it have a title that matches the number.  If you were to purchase it what plans do you have for it?

You indicate you want close to original and have decals and emblems but you do not mention it has 2 different side covers (one looks like a Z1R side cover)  The tank and cap look to me like they might be from a cop version of the bike.

I also noticed the front brake caliper is in front of the forks which I do not think was the case stock in 1978.

I agree with gd4now, is it titled? What are the engine and frame numbers? Two big considerations. It appears to be an LTD B2 frame with A2 parts. Not typical, most times guy are taking an A and trying to ma a B. It has the wrong bars, no airbox, police tank, as mentioned two different side covers. Without knowing the serial numbers I’d say 2-3k.

Correct me if I'm wrong (more than likely) but doesn't that frame have KZ900 exhaust brackets?

I do not know if it does or does not. I do know there are some here who do know lots more than I do about what is and what is not correct for 78 kz1000's than I do.  I know more about the little brothers (kz650's) than the larger bikes. So, do not take anything I have said about it as fact.

Thanks, I thought all the LTD's had brackets bolted to the frame like the 750 4's, it seems that was only on the later versions.

Yep the LTD have the Z1 type hangers, the Z1000 A1 ans A2 had the rust prone hanging style, i bought an LTD frame at the beginning of the year to have as a later project and put the exhaust hangers on my Z1.

The Z1 and Kz900, and Kz1000 B frames are all the same in the rear foot peg/exhaust hangers. The bolt on aluminum type started in the ‘81 model LTD’s. The Kz1000 A’s had the steel rear foot peg/exhaust hanger that was wide at the top and tapered downward to the grommet

Wow guys, You are the best. So many little things that I didn't know about. I think I will pass on this bike. The last thing I want is an LTD.
