Need advice FAST
22 Dec 2017 10:01
I friend of a friend is trying to raise money for last minute xmas gifts. Hes selling his 1977 KZ1000 for 4000. It is clean clean clean, and works well BUT it has 57,000 miles on it.
Should I or shouldnt I pull the trigger?

If it has been well cared for, that is not a lot of miles.

Where is home for you? Market prices are regional. I think it is top dollar for Denver/CO Front Range. Too much for that many miles. Is he truly on top of all the maintenance? Is he THAT guy? My prices are dialed into my region but I wouldn't go over $3K for that many miles even for a bike that was cosmetically excellent. Offering $3,500 isn't out of line IMO. He won't be insulted, not for long anyway. You can always offer more and he'll take it.
It should not need anything. Not a battery, not tires, not brakes, nothing. Tires installed at a dealer is probably $400. Chain and sprocket $150. Think it through.

The seller is flailing about at (nearly) the last minute to finance and acquire Xmas presents, despite knowing for many months that Xmas was going to occur. Methodical planning may not be his strong suit.
