Picking up a 1984 KZ1000 tomorrow... Have question
12 Mar 2017 12:01 - 12 Mar 2017 12:10
Greetings everyone. Tomorrow I am going to pick up a 1984 Kawasaki KZ1000 for $1,000 that just needs tires. Did these bikes have any particular problems that I should look for? When looking online I noticed that there is almost no parts for this year KZ1000. Is it maybe not a KZ? Any way to tell when I get there? Looking on eBay I can't find any parts for 1984 but I find thousands of parts for every other year. Do these bikes generally last a long time? Thanks in advance for all your help!
Edit: nada guides says they didn't make a kz1000 that year...

Are you in the USA and got any photos? Don't think there was a '84 KZ1000 in the US market other than the police model.

Thanks for responding. I will include a picture. I am in the USA. I'll also include a picture of the VIN number. Thanks again.

I would ask the police department to check the vin to make sure the bike isn't stolen or the vin isn't altered.
You might be able to check the vin at Kawasaka.com.
just needs tires.... famous last words. Don't believe anything the po says. people forget, don't know or flat out lie.

Could the bike be a ZN1100-B1 LTD shaft?

That's what it looks like to me. I believe the wheels and that bar behind the seat point to the ZN1100. Ed

Thanks for responding everyone. I've worked on bikes for a bit so I will look the bike over before I purchase. He told me I can take it on a long test drive if I want but to be careful because of the tires. Kind of strange he doesn't know what size or what kind of bike he has LOL.

Short answer is yes...in essence, these are KZ bikes...and the last of the air-cooled non-police inline-four motorcycles

+1 for McDroid , there is no such thing as a bad Kawasaki KZ, they are all great, no matter the CC's.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.
