According to the guy that I bout it from..he being a collector of Suzuki ,s. Said that only 12 including his katana exist in the US.
All others are 83 GS 1100s katana.
82 has the unpainted engine while the 83 is black.
Either way it does not matter...always wanted one.

Article I read said the 1000's were built for the US just so they would be legal for AMA Superbike class racing, other countries got 1100's. Seems like there would be more than 12 built for the US. But now that you own one you will learn all about them. I learned a lot more about the TC's after I got one.

The guys on The GS Resources say there were 2915 1000 Katana's made. The US was the largest market but not sure how many were sold there.

Mexico? More like Australia and New Zealand.

I'm glad that you found one of your dream bikes but I'm certain there are a LOT more than 12 samples kicking around the US. Probably more like 1200. The bikes were made as 1000s partly for racing reasons, but they were a regular production bike. Not a special homologation special.

Nice one Spdygon. Bit hard on the body those bikes though.
Good handling in comparison to some other makes of the time.
Shit load of them here still - they were popular. Have seen 1 or 2 of the 1000's.

Ask him how many Wes Cooley's Suzuki made and report back. The common numbers banded about are drastically lower than how many were really made. Here are a couple I restored...

Yeah, yeah.
I must admit, there are a number of Suzuki's that I would like to own, not the Katanas though´. But those GS1000S are super sweet.
