Garage.
09 Jan 2015 17:08
Any guesses?
Im wondering what is safe to warm my garage with so my bike starts easier, we hit the low singles at night and without a jumpstart my kz750 won't start.
I have this awful fear of igniting the fumes that may escape from the tank, not sure if that's even possible with a little electric heater lol
Any ideas? I don't know the size of the garage off the top of my head but I can find out if need be

This is where I love my triples with a kick starter. One winter years ago, my S2 started every time it was asked too, no matter how cold it was. The same could not be said for my 1980 550 LTD and its stupid EPA lean jetting.

Heating the whole garage might take quite a bit and may be expensive. You may want to just buy a cheap electric blanket and drape it over the bike to keep the chill off. Ed

I agree with Ed... it might cost you quite a bit to heat your whole garage.
I did this a couple years ago with a oil filled radiator 1500W space heater, when I was working on my D2, in a 2 car insulated garage... the wife told me that the 'lectic bill was ~$100/mo more! Well,, that stopped really quick!
If money is a non-issue for you, got fur it... but don't send me your bills or let your wife/SO know I told you this. You'll not live it down! (...from me or her!)

I have a med sized electric space heater that I've set under the front of the motor blowing under the header/pan. In about 30 to 40 min the entire motor is nice and warm. Could try that.

You could try one of those secretary's foot warmers. Not the kind that blow hot air but the kind that are just a plastic mat. They would just make a tiny bit of heat that would rise to keep the engine warm. They have an internal thermostat so they won't over heat when left unattended.
Here's just one I found at Amazon:

Good luck

Thanks everybody that gave me some ideas to think about, considering the state if the garage heating it would cost more than it's worth so ill probably do something small like you said

infrared bulb or "heat lamp" and shine it on the engine. careful though they get hot, maybe even on a timer so it's ready when you are.
be safe
