I'll be riding up lakeside and cutting west on 50. No point in riding if I have to slab it and miss all the scenery along the way. ;) I will try to find a few guys this way to ride up if I can.

Still uploading for another little bit so if it doesn't work try try again. This is just the first video of three. It takes fairly long to upload. Hope you enjoy.

I'll follow as best I can here.

A little out of order perhaps but the longer videos take forever. When they upload I will chronicle them in correct order.
From Montrose we headed towards Lower Wacker Drive and then on to the trip back.

Well, wife x'd out the downloading on youtube to open her page and I guess I will download the other video clip tomorrow or something. Takes forever to upload lengthy video. But at least you guys get the idea of what Chicago looks like from our little ride on LSD and Wacker Down Under.

Hi guys, Just a quick check in...

I was up for most of 48hours. Never been so cold.
Got some sleep last night, but now am off to work.

I'll be around Sunday morning to handoff to Saxjonz.
I'll text him my number.

My basement still needs a mopping, but my Dad's house is still surrounded by the Des Plaines River.

These photos were taken by my sister from my Dad's front porch, while it was still relatively shallow. You can see the river off in the background. That's me working the hose. By midnight I couldn't walk out the driveway with those boots. :)

Thanks everyone. My family's been through this several times since the mid 1980's, so it's pretty straight forward. My Dad has it down to a science, although chaotic science.

The only thing that messes us up is when the village, or fire department gets involved. They help us by cutting our power, cutting our gas, towing our vehicles without telling us where they put them, disallowing us from driving down the street so my sister has to carry everything (5 gallons of gas is not exactly light) for several blocks. This is after the utility companies already said there were no hazards and they refused to cut the power/gas. But Fire and Rescue had their shiny new Visegrips to shut off the gas. Nice. It was only 30 degrees F and we were soaking wet. No problem.

At least they disappeared after the news crews left, or they ran out of arm butter, not sure which.

It's pretty straight forward. You just pump down the water, block off as many leaks in the basement as you can, try not to fall asleep, try to stay dry, and for Godsakes, don't drop any tools in the water, you can never find them. The only real hitch this time was I was already fighting a cold before it started.

The best moment... when the Fireman was flexing his pecks, trying to explain why the gas needs to be shutoff, and said "look, neither you nor I can control the level of the water...", my Dad interrupted him with "I can... I have a pump." Firedude was speechless. Gotta love the old man.

(We manually shutoff the water heater gas valve, and the furnace is on a riser with a dedicated shutoff that we can easily reach. Not to mention the both have auto-shutoff valves when the pilots go out.)

Anyway, I'm in contact with Saxjonz for the handoff to him tomorrow. If my head and throat don't feel too bad, I might try to keep up with him part way to Kenosha. :)
