kz vulcan 750 ---how good a bike is it?
08 Sep 2011 14:46
i'm thinking of buying a kz vulcan 750 1988 for $1800
i'm a small person and don't want to manhandle a lot of weight like a 1200cc
i'm riding a trusty 550 ltd now...but was wondering about your thoughts on the v-twin engines in general...this 88' has 14,000 miles on it and looks good, very clean and runs good....any advice before buying anyone?....

I am by no means a fan of "cruiser" type bikes, however I have always liked the vulcan series. When I lived overseas, I often rode with a friend who had a customized Vulcan 400. I liked how simple it was, very comfortable to ride, sounded good, and very reliable. My friend's custom chopper shop often used vulcan engines in many of their full-custom bikes because they were so reliable. The only downside is that the chrome on the engines is notoriously bad, often bubbles and peels after only a few years. There is also a plastic coolant tube (small 90 degree bend peice) that likes to leak coolant. My friend had to replace that tube regularly, but luckily it was a cheap part, and im sure that with a little creativity, you could find a way to fix it for good.

US$1800 seems a bit steep...KBB (I know, it's silly, but it can be accurate, sometimes) suggests US$1650 as absolute top dollar for a bike in excellent shape.
