It's obvious why it sold for such a high price (for a wimpy 1000 anyway).

It's that extremely rare "Gorgeous Vance & Heins exhaust!"

Yeah you gotta love a retard. It's not like it has the proper spelling on the side of that rare bit of performance history.

It sold that high because the guy that bought it was HIGH and really wanted a old KZ the carbs are only 28mm nothing special.
Just hang on to your KZ stuff and buy it now if you can theres a lot of interest in these old bikes and a lot of old stoners with money that just gotta have it now.
This sale is proof.
Im sure that a lot of people sent vincents and laverdas and other rare bikes to the scrap yard back in the day

my own Ebay experience tells me that, just because thats where the bidding ended it has not necesarily been paid for. and may never be! it may be back on ebay soon. now I'm done before you guys start talkin about yamaha's again!

If you look at the ending bidders (the ones that took the final price so high) you'll note that they were all novice bidders and the one that actually won was a zero feedback novice. I suspect the bike will not be paid for.

I agree. The (0) for the winning bidder's history could be someone trying to up the price at the last minute. We have all see this happen before, so I don't think the bike will sell either.

Maybe it was EXACTLY what the buyer wanted. $5000 is a lot of money, but you probably would have to spend more than that to build that bike even though it really doesnt have any exotic parts on it.

Or maybe it was a price-inflating fraudulent bid.

Or maybe someone thought it was a piece of Scott Russell memorabilia (seller contact name).

Or maybe people are stupid.

These are all real possibilities

That's true, I have more than that in parts right now and still have more to go. Then there's what I paid for the bike on top of that. Thank god I don't have to pay someone to put it together.
