81 KZ1100 or a 75 Z900

I have a really nice 1981 KZ1100 that I have been asked to trade for a 1975 Z900.

My bike is ready to ride and doesnt take much work to keep up. The Z900 needs the valves adjusted and the carbs cleaned just to make it more of a reliable runner. It will also need a bunch of cleaning.

I am not afraid to do the work. As a matter of fact I like doing it.

From what I can tell the Z900 is more of a collector bike and is sought after more then the KZ1100.

Should I make the trade or not? Pros? Cons?

Thanks for your help on this. Just looking to get some Kawasaki lovers input.

WTF a REAL Z!1 is much more valuable than what u have, then the ? become WHY?
I would, the value in the future is much higher for the Z1 (if it is a REAL Z1) than the 1100 JMO but if ur in doubt go to fleabay and compare auction between the two, then u will have the answer grasshopper

but again why ??? this guy offered it to u ??/ ask for booty???

Hard for us to judge, but personally I'd take the 900. Never liked the looks of the 1100.

A 75 KZ900 is not a Z1 btw. Only the 73 is a true Z1.

You really have to do some soul-searching on what you want in a motorcycle. If you have your 1100 dialed in and are having fun with it...keep it. If you want to own a bit of history...trade for the Z1B. :)

Well it says Z1E on the motor and Z1F on the neck. He is willing to give me 800.00 with the trade. It needs carbs rebuilt, valve adjustment and gasket and general maintainence.

I like my KZ but would be interested in a bit of history and willing to do the work to clean it up.

+1 on what trianglelaguna said...also, post the motor and frame VINs...if you are thinkng of going for the deal, make sure that the VINs 'match' and what he has: a Z1B or a KZ900...there are some value issues between the two. Be also advised, that refurbing a Z1-era bike can be a money pit and is not for the faint-hearted. You'll be trading (more or less) a perfectly good running bike for a non-runner.

Here's my 75 Z1 build: kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...w&catid=11&id=375078

The carb kits are cheap and you can rebuild them without disassembling the whole rack. It's not a money pit because it a Z1, I restored mine for around $1000. I didn't have to get into the engine thankfully, so most of the money was cosmetics.

Tag on frame says Z1F 53209. The motor says Z1E 053266. The title says that the Vin/Serial number is Z1FS3209.

Anyone have any idea what all this means?

Thanks for all the feadback. Really helps me learn about this bike. B)
