My new ride(new to me)
05 Oct 2010 14:56 - 05 Oct 2010 15:00
I picked this up on weekend. Sold my 83FLH and bought this. It is a 1942 WLC 45(750cc) WW2 army bike civilianized in the 50s. Not changed since then either. I have had a 45 before and know what it will take to get this going. The plan is to rebiuld motor, maybe tanny(but I hope it is ok) redo electrics new tires bearings in wheels and ride as is. A true barn find!!!! I am lucky I found one in 1995 also, most people never really have the luck of a true barn find, I now have had two. I KNOW it is not a KAW, but sitting beside my GPZ1100 it makes it look that much cleaner!!!!!!

Are you sure that's not a 2010 UltraGlide? I have a hard time telling different year Harleys apart.

Nice piece of history! In 1940 the US Army ordered 745 WLA's, Harley Davidson beating out Indian and BMW cycles. Soon after the Govt. ordered 2,000 for South Africa and 5,000 for Britian and another 700 for the US Army.
These flatheads had 23 horsepower and had only a 5:1 compression ratio. Probally could have run on camel piss! LOL!
They had to go 65MPH and not overheat. I like the model with the leather gun sheath and the back lens with the black out lens.
Back to reality, hope some of these guys here don't ridicule on it calling it something like wasted, Hardley something!
True piece of American History and a tribute to the Soldiers that used them in war!
I also own a 75FLH And 2 Kaw KZ's

Cool project. I have no hate for a WWII era Harley. It's the 2010 bikes with WWII technology and looks for 20K+ that piss me off. Also, their most recent threats of moving the factory from Wisconsin to gain leverage in labor negotiations doesn't wash with me.
